Well, 16 miles today without any problems but I can feel the fatigue starting to set in now. As yet, boredom on the longer runs is not an issue – I quite like being out in the fresh air and alone with my thoughts but 2 and a half hours is a long time to be watching the pavement so next week when I move up to 18 miles I think I will see some changes. Firstly I expect to get my first taste of the wall, which I’m not looking forward to, and I think I might start needing the iPod to while away what will soon be 3 hours on the road.
Anyway, will cross that bridge when I come to it but stay tuned!

Thankfully, missing Wednesday’s run due to a bad cold didn’t seem to have any after effects on today’s run. This week was something of a recovery week anyway so today wasn’t an epic distance either. Next week should be hard though – got a 16 Miler next Saturday so that will be a challenge…

Another weekend long run completed – 14 Miles today. Could have done without the howling wind and lashing rain though!
Hardest thing today was grabbing those last couple of miles – not because I was struggling but because I’d misjudged the distance back to the start and ended up having to do laps of the local streets. It really feels longer when you’re watching the milometer on the GPS!!

I think this will be the last competitive race of 2009 I’ll be doing as I need to focus on the training plan I’ve mapped out. Fortunately, I was down to do a 12 mile run this weekend anyway so this made it a bit more interesting. Managed to average an 8m12s pace over the course of the race and came in with a time of between 1:47 and 1:48 so that will do as a reasonable benchmark for next year. I can’t be more accurate than that because I didn’t stop my own timer properly (need to read the manual at some point) and was far too caught up in the sprint finish with another person to look up at the race clock at the end – doh! Oh well, the official times will be published sometime tomorrow so I’ll know for sure then.
