The Long Run…

Posted on Oct 31, 2009 under Training Diary | Comments are off

10 Miles today, the first of the longer training runs but no real problems. Beginning to feel the extra distance a little though and I’m taking water with me now in a camel pack which is something I never needed to do on the shorter routes.

Hopefully getting a Garmin Forerunner next week so I’ll be able to start getting a more accurate and detailed assessment of how I’m doing. Next weekend’s long run is actually a half marathon race I entered a while ago so it’ll be interesting to see how I get on with that and whether I improve on last year’s time.

Just found out today that a long time friend and colleague of mine passed away last night after a long battle with Pancreatic Cancer, hence I felt the least I could do as a mark of respect was to add Pancreatic Cancer UK to the list of charities I’m raising money for. My deepest condolences go out to his wife and family.

Rob, you will be missed.

And so it Begins!

Well my formal training schedule has kicked off, although I have been running regularly for about 4 years now so I’m not exactly starting from scratch. Counting down to the first race gives me about 13 weeks to get ready. Today’s 8.5 miles was no problem and I’ll be doing my long runs on a Saturday from now on. Next week’s is a 10 miler and they ain’t getting any shorter now! Oh well, committed now…
